About the Author
Elizabeth J. Reitz is professor of anthropology at the Georgia Museum of Natural History, University of Georgia. Her work is based on the identification and interpretation of animal remains from coastal archaeological sites, particularly in South America, the Caribbean, and the southeastern United States. She is the co-author and co-editor of several volumes, as well as the author of over 150 articles and chapters in books.
Elizabeth S. Wing is Curator Emeritus at the Florida Museum of Natural History, University of Florida. Co-author of two books and author of many scholarly articles, she received the Fryxell Award from the Society for American Archaeology in 1996 for distinguished contributions to archaeology through interdisciplinary research. In 2006, Dr Wing was elected to the National Academy of Sciences and received the President's Medal from the University of Florida.

The Zooarchaeologist's Bible!

Certainly the best overall book on the subject of Zooarchaeology. Useful for both the student and professional, it provides great detail on all aspects of this field and has many valuable references. It is superbly used as a textbook, and is a must-have for all archaeologists or anybody else that wishes to learn more about historic or prehistoric human interaction with animals. Dr. Wing founded the Zooarchaeology laboratories at the Florida Museum of Natural History (Gainesville, FL) and as curator, she is considered one of the leading experts in the field. Dr. Reitz is Director of Georgia's Museum of Natural History and is also highly regarded as a leading expert. I certainly keep this book at close hand on my reference shelf!

Must have for anyone interested, working, or studying zooarch. You should also buy the recommend Lyman's "Vertebrate Taphonomy" book and keep both handy.

Great source of info for beginners

This is a valuable book for those that are new to the discipline of Anthropology, Archeology, or Zoology. This book is at a college level so be prepared for some heavy reading. This is an introductory book on these subjects so you will see a lot of sceintific terms you might now be familiar with. Overall this is an excellent book for learning about how Anthropologists and Archeologists approach their study of what they find on their digs.
