A useful upper level skills textbook

Passages 1 and 2 are written by Jack Richards, who led development of the popular Interchange series. I was pleased to find this advanced level companion to Interchange (which is really excellent). The 1st edition of Passages was a fairly useful text, but with numerous shortcomings. This second edition of Passages is a huge improvement. Richards et al. seem to have responded to user feedback, as well as taking a page from Interchange's success.
That said, I find I have to supplement this text much more often than I do the Interchange books. Specifically, I feel advanced students need even more examples of language in authentic contexts, yet Passages often skimps on these. Still, the functional language topics are useful for advanced students (at least, I find them so in a North American context) and the shortcomings can be overcome through authentic teacher-provided texts.
If you like Interchange and are looking for the next step, give Passages a try.

An excellent course book

This is an excellent series - there are many interesting topics and the exercises are clear and consistantly interesting. It works well with one on one tutoring as well with some slight adjustments.

The book is in very good shape, some pages were written but I was able to erase. It is an excellent book for intermediate learning English students. It brings a CD with exercises.
