About the Author
Professor Tony Waldron teaches palaeopathology at the Institute of Archaeology, University College London. The author of about 300 peer-reviewed papers in medical, scientific, and archaeology journals, as well as books on occupational medicine and palaeoepidemiology, he is co-founder of the International Journal of Osteoarchaeology and served as co-editor for its first decade. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London, the Royal Society of Medicine, the Institute of Biology, and the Royal Anthropological Institute.

Good Operational Definitions but...

This book has really great operational definitions for most of the diseases that he talks about. Waldron is a medical doctor so sometimes he does have a tendency go into a lot of (well, from what I was looking to learn from it) unnecessary detail with things that could be made a lot simpler. If you are looking for something about identifying pathologies from bones or a field manual this might not be the book for you. It doesn't really have a lot of pictures and the ones that it does have are not the best quality and while the operational definitions of pathologies are fantastic, he doesn't really cover a wide range of diseases. It's a great book if you are looking for an overview of pathologies that can affect bone.

Thorough Laboratory Manual for Paleopathology

Waldron's laboratory manual, "Paleopathology" provides thorough descriptions of various diseases and traumas that commonly affect bone tissues. This is a manual for the professional (or graduate level) osteoarchaeologist, forensic anthropologist, or paleopathologist. Waldron is attempting to establish common criteria for the diagnosis of pathologies which should prove to be useful in cutting down on inter-observer error. However, this manual is not well suited for teaching undergraduate courses. There is a distinct lack of illustrations and the quality of the black and white photos do not show adequate details for teaching purposes

very interesting. Even for a casual reader of the subject, understandable and interesting. Topic is applicable to today as well
