About the Author
Salima Ikram is Professor of Egyptology at the American University in Cairo. An archaeologist of ancient Egypt, she is the author of several scholarly and popular books, including, most recently, Death and Burial in Ancient Egypt, Divine Creatures: Animal Mummies in Ancient Egypt, and, with A. M. Dodson, The Tomb in Ancient Egypt.

Outstanding, beautifully written and illustrated introduction

This is a wonderful book that reminds me of how much I loved studying ancient Egypt in college. The author writes in an engaging, knowledgeable manner, which is at just the right level. It is intended for the interested general reader, who might then want to go further. She took most of the photographs herself, and along with the insets, glossary and maps, provides the best general introduction to the history of ancient Egypt. This is an easy 5 star!

Great Intro to Ancient Egypt

I had to read this book for my Ancient Egypt course in college and I really liked it! It was easy to read while still going into detail about Ancient Egypt. I highly recommend this book and would supplement it with "The Complete Pyramids: Solving the Ancient Mysteries" by Mark Lehner with goes more into the pyramids aspect in areas which this book was lacking

Great introduction to ancient Egypt

Very easy to read and understand without dumbing down the subject. Dr. Ikram's knowledge and love of her subject make the book informative and entertaining. The illustrations and photos, as well as the boxed texts, add extra insight into the material.
